,,Pilgrimages are “praying with the feet”, pilgrimages go out into the distance and into a very personal experience of faith and God. Since the 9th century, the Way of St. James to Santiago has developed with different routes, all of which lead to Santiago de Compostela to the tomb of Saint James. Also through Switzerland there are different routes, which are for the first time described in English in three volumes by Hans Beumer (Unterageri) . The books (North-East Switzerland, Central Switzerland and South-West Switzerland) are richly illustrated, with helpful maps and additionally point out many peculiarities on the way. Churches, chapels and monasteries, for example, have their special place in the impressive work, among them of course also the St. Gallen monastery district with our cathedral, the monastery library and the various chapels.
I am delighted that the three volumes have brought the Swiss pilgrim paths closer to people who need information in English. Pilgrimages are more than just hiking; they connect people from all over the world and make it possible to share experiences of faith.
